Multi-Grammy-nominated cellist Matt Haimovitz is known for bringing a fresh perspective to both classical repertoire and new music. Praised by The New York Times for his “megawatt sound and uncommon expressive gifts,” he has built a career defined by adventurous programming, groundbreaking collaborations, and innovative recording projects. He made his orchestral debut at 13 with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic and has since appeared with leading ensembles including the Berlin Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, and Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. His recent PRIMAVERA PROJECT brought together 81 new commissions and was featured at the 59th Venice Biennale Arte.

His recording career began at 17 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and now spans more than three decades across Deutsche Grammophon, Oxingale Records, and PENTATONE. His honors include the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Trailblazer Award, Grand Prix du Disque, and Premio Internazionale “Accademia Musicale Chigiana.” A Juilliard-trained musician and Harvard graduate, Haimovitz also mentors young cellists at the University of Minnesota, serves as the first John Cage Fellow at Mannes School of Music, and performs on a 1710 Matteo Gofriller cello.
